Food Poisoning
Last week was a ton of fun. I went to Octoberfest at Snowbird Ski Resort, ate some Octoberfest food and immediately started feeling funny. It took a few hours for the pathogen in the food to fully develop, but once it did, there was no stopping the explosive vomiting. It was terrible. No one likes being nauseous, but this was beyond extreme. I couldn’t keep a single fluid down, and could tell I was becoming dehydrated. I continued to drink as much water as I could, fully knowing I would see it again soon. After spending much of the evening between a bucket and the toilet, I showed no signs of improvement. By 11pm, I was barely able to stand, and my body was starting to cramp all over. Breathing was becoming difficult, as I had pulled muscles in my abdomen and back at some point during the profuse vomiting. My condition was worsening beyond control.
My roommate took me to the hospital as I struggled to stay conscious. Breathing had become so painful that I could only take short, shallow breaths. I was administered an IV, and waited nervously for the medication to take effect. It took a ton of saline, a ton of pain medicine, and a ton of anti nausea medicine to stabilize my condition. I was there until about 1:15am. After that I was still not quite right for another 3 days, although the vomiting had ceased.
I called Snowbird, and they denied any liability in the matter. All indicators pointed to the food I ate there though. I felt fine prior to arriving, ate there, and immediately felt strange. I did not eat a bite of food before or after either. Hopefully this blog will hit the search engines and get their attention. Time will tell.
